Trail is complete from Cumberland, MD to Homestead, PA, a distance of 141 miles. The trail ends at the Waterfront shopping district in Homestead, PA.

We do not recommend riding Route 837 from the Waterfront to the Hot Metal Bridge: this well-traveled highway has poor sight lines in many areas and non-existent shoulders. Most of the local buses can transport two bicycles per bus. From downtown the 61D Somerset and the 57 Hazelwood buses both terminate at the Giant Eagle grocery in the Waterfront. They also begin inbound to town from the same stop. Schedules and maps are available at Port Authority's web site: Visit the Website

Montour Trail
Last updated on: 11/4/2011

For complete details on all construction notices for the Montour Trail please: Visit the Website

Construction has begun on the new bridges that will replace the hazardous road crossings at Georgetown Road and Morganza Road. For safety reasons we will not be able to allow a street crossing at Georgetown road during the construction period ending in June of 2012. The trail closing is anticipated to begin by this weekend.

For those wishing to ride through the area an on road detour will be required. A path will be installed about 1 mile east of Georgetown Road that will lead from the trail to Hahn road through an existing but abandoned underpass. From there a rider may continue up Hahn road to the intersection with Georgetown and along Georgetown to Morganza. Coming the other direction Riders will cross Morganza then continue on Georgetown to the point where it turns sharply left where they will continue straight onto Hahn Road to the path that will return to the trail. Signs will be installed to direct riders as soon as possible.

The MTC apologizes for this short notice but it was unavoidable. If you walk or ride in the Georgetown road area during the next few days before the closure please be extremely careful.

BEBOUT BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION Detour for Montour Trail/Arrowhead Trail

The 1913 railroad bridge at Montour Trail Mile Marker 32.8 will be demolished October 19, 2011. The new improved bridge will be in place by the end of May 2012. The Arrowhead/Montour Trail will have a gap during that period of time.

Bebout Road is scheduled to close to all traffic October 19th, with the major demolition - and roadway closure - scheduled to begin on the 24th. Peters Township has placed signs on the trail advertising the 19th as the date the trail will close.

Bicyclists and pedestrians attempting to cross Bebout Road using the trail on and after the 19th will encounter a closed section of trail and will not be able to complete their ride/walk using that trail segment. From a trail user point of view, the significant closure date is the 19th. From that narrow trail user point of view, the only change the 24th will bring is that driving to one side or the other of the gap may involve an automotive detour.

Detours will be posted and signs are currently in place in anticipation of the road closings. More information, including a map Visit the Website
This map is primarily for thru-riders: those bicycling the Montour Trail to/from the Great Allegheny Passage and/or Greater Pittsburgh Airport. Other trail users are urged to organize their trail activity to one or the other side of the Bebout gap for the duration of the project. Southside Trail
Last updated on: 11/04/2011

The long-term plan for the Southside Trail is to connect to the existing trail at the Waterfront in Homestead/West Homestead. At this point there are not construction plans because we need to work out agreements with private property owners. South Side 10-1 trail segment of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail is now complete. Trail users are finally able to travel from the Baldwin Borough Trail through the South Side and to Station Square, downtown Pittsburgh and beyond. Work continues on the acquisition of trail corridor on the Steel Valley Trail section. There is no parking at the Baldwin side.
